Rudraksha booby traps!

Shiva Om Dear Friends,
Given ahead is an image sent to me by one of my close friends who thought that this would enhance my knowledge in the field of “Rudrakshas”.

ORIGINAL
NEPAL TRIJUTI RUDRAKSHA

  1. This image has in fact encouraged me the clear the cobwebs regarding yet another sector of “Fake Rudrakshas”. Given the fact that in the state of Maharashtra the Holy month of Shravan is being observed, such images keep doing the rounds and a great number of gullible people fall prey to them.
There are two aspects to this blog and I am starting with the first part of it. First of all this image is of a “Fake Rudraksha”. This is a creation by fraudsters who normally call these as special gifts of Lord Shiva and opine that this epitomises the all powerful Trinity ( Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh ). This kind of a Rudraksha is commonly found outside Lord Shiva temples by street vendors and to my surprise it has takers who actually buy them. ( both the Fake Rudraksha and the story that they churn in regards to it ).
The concept of Three Rudraksha’s being naturally co-joined is not completely untrue. You do get this variety from both Nepal as well as from Indonesia. The Nepal variety is rare and costs a bomb if well formed. On the other hand its Indonesian counterpart is relatively easily available and though even that burns a hole in one’s pocket it does not create a massive crater like the Nepal variety does. The natural variety is called as a “Trijuti or Tripath or Tribagh”. Images of the same are shown below :

ORIGINAL INDONESIAN TRIJUTI RUDRAKSHA

One has to be exceedingly cautious while buying this kind of a bead as the number of fakes, which virtually look like the original one’s normally find their way to the  naive buyer. In a particular season or in other words in a year mother nature produces barely three to four numbers of authentic Nepal Trijuti’s. Interestingly thousands are sold with bogus certificates in places of religious importance. I wouldn’t even like to guess how many are sold without certificates.
Fake Trijuti’s are commonly available in the Indonesian variety too. At times the craftsmanship of these scammers is so very good that many a trader of Rudraksha’s also do get conned into buying them. Various sellers and websites will quote you varying costs of this rare Rudraksha. The cost of the Rudraksha will literally make your head spin as the variations in the cost would be phenomenal. The common man would obviously opt for the cheaper ones with a certificate of so called authenticity of the bead. Beware my friends as mentioned earlier the original pieces come with a large ticket size.

There exist a clan of these sleazy con artists in Nepal, India and Indonesia. They actually do this as a full time profession and get paid handsomely. Among them too the highly skillful artisan gets paid so well that even a highly qualified and experienced corporate honcho would feel belittled. Given below are some images of fake Trijuti’s both from Indonesia and Nepal.

FAKE / DUPLICATE NEPAL TRIJUTI RUDRAKSHA

The second part is the message
which goes viral along with these kind of images.

Though educated and well aware that messages like this
have no meaning and doling out this message to 8 or any number of people cannot
get you the kind of assurances they claim. However, this kind of a fear
mongering gets the better of us on account of our own inherent insecurities and
avarices getting the better of us in some way or the other. I have virtually
seen even those who call themselves atheists or hard core rationalists also
forwarding these messages with lightning speed.

For those of my friends who wish to see for themselves
