Is it correct to have pictures of Gods and religious gurus in wallets?

Most of us have this common habit of placing photographs of Gods and religious Gurus as a part of our faith in them. Most of you would answer me in the affirmative and say “Yes” and wonder what is the reason for me creating such a commotion about it? Most of the people commit this blunder. One of the most common folly contrived by people around the world is to place pictures of Gods / Religious figures / Spiritual Saints in their wallets.

Some are advised to do so while some do it on their own accord. It never crosses a person’s mind that this could actually be a grave error. It is highly undesirable to carry these auspicious elements in your wallet. Have I struck a sensitive nerve here?

Now let us understand why is it improper to do so :
  • Mother nature has so designed the architecture of our physiology, that the lower part of the body is primarily an excreta area. You tend to throw out all which is unimportant and unnecessary to your holy body. So would you keep the pictures and representations of those which are an embodiment of piousness to you ‘there’
  • b. Wallets are by and large carried in the back pocket which is next to our derriers and below our waist which is the “Tamasic” zone of our body in opposition to the pious “Satvik” images of gods. We inadvertently sit on them and this is no way you would like to treat the Gods you worship.
  • c. Most of the wallets are nowadays made of leather. Leather is never considered auspicious and hence you will find no place for leather in our Poojas or Mandirs. Here, again do you really know the animal this wallet’s leather has originated from.
  • d. Also most of the wallets are black. Black is certainly not a colour related to auspiciousness or sacred matters.
  • e. There are people whose wallets are dirty, torn and in a bad shape. Would you like to keep your loved and revered Gods in such a dilapidated condition?
  • f. Are your hands necessarily clean whenever you handle your wallet? You may have just gone to the wash room and you need to pull out your cash or card from the wallet, do you think this is a sanctimonious act?
  • g. There are people who store virtual junk in their wallets rarely do they ever do away with the undesired elements. - Would you like your venerated Gods and others to share space in such a dump?
  • h. When you are back home and take of your wallet, is the place where you place it necessarily sanctified?
  • i. Are you in any position to maintain the sanctity of the wallet (as it is the carrier of various holy representations) as you may visit the wash room with it, have non- vegetarian food, consume liquor, attend a funeral, meet somebody who is not in a pious state. Taking into account all these above mentioned facts, I am sure now there remains no doubt in your mind about whether to keep pictures of Gods, Religious Gurus, etc. in your wallet or not. To conclude, our short sightedness having given rise to imprudence needs to be rectified with immediate effect.
